As the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts a possible flash freeze tomorrow, Tuesday into Wednesday, Jan. 29 – 30, 2019, black ice is a possibility and the Georgia DOT is pre-treating its roadways with brine.
Maintenance crews all over West Central Georgia will head out to brine the region’s interstates and state routes starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight, Monday, Jan. 28, 2019 and continuing overnight. At 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, they will begin spreading rock salt on the district’s overpasses and bridges.
The crews will begin brining the district’s interstates (I-75, I-85, I-16, I-475 and I-185) and primary state routes, and then work down the list of state routes in order of priority.
The trucks may travel slower than the posted speed limit. If motorists encounter a brine truck while driving, they are urged to give it a wide berth to avoid getting the concentrated salt water on their vehicles.
