Law enforcement authorities found three people dead Tuesday inside a rural southeast Georgia home.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) posted on Twitter saying two females and a teenager had been confirmed dead in Charlton County. GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles confirmed the two females were adults.
As news reports were being released throughout the day on Tuesday, the GBI reported to the media that the deaths appeared to be a double murder-suicide situation. It was also reported that the father found them dead inside the home, according to local news reports.
Charlton County Sheriff’s Dispatcher Tina Myers said investigators were sent to the small community of St. George – which is near the St. Marys river bordering the state of Florida.
Local news reports say law enforcement vehicles surrounded the home on Tuesday and that officers were taking down crime scene tape and removing boxes from the house.
GBI officials have identified the deceased as Caleb Butts, 15, Kimberly Butts, 39, and Jan Kirkland, 64. It’s unclear who investigators believe fired the deadly shots.
The state medical examiner is to perform autopsies on Wednesday.
